BACKGROUND

Pool.Farm is a free service that simplifies collaborative orders. By merging small orders into one, larger order, they can reduce the cost of logistics together, allowing users to take one step closer to saving our threatened planet.

OPPORTUNITY

As a startup with a new idea, the service tool was previously built without regards to interaction design and usability. The service needed to give access to pooling by designing a site to inspire, inform, awaken interest and motivation, and reach out to more people, potential users and new markets. Inspiring people to use pooling would reduce environmental costs and footprints in their shopping habits.

SOLUTION

Create a design proposal to lift the potential of the idea and meet the market needs and behaviors. Update and refine visual design to increase usability and full experience of Pool.Farm. Spread knowledge about the environmental impacts and savings, make it fun and inspiring and make it easy for users to choose green.

MY ROLE

UX/UI/WEB/VISUAL DESIGN & STRATEGY

The project was performed remotely together with a developer colleague and the client based in Stockholm. With a budget covering a couple of weeks' work, the project and design was prioritized accordingly on concept idea and initial MVP designs. I helped the startup client with the design process, strategic support, product design and created new visual experiences to match the needs and solve today’s problems with the site.

WIREFRAMING & WEB DESIGN

By organizing the user flows and site structure to design the full experience of the concept, lofi and hifi wireframes were mocked up and delivered to the developer. In a complex system with payments, booking, social interaction and personal details together with the expected user experience, the flows were iteratively tested on customers and users. For the MVP the focus was on desktop.

KEY TAKE-AWAYS

FREELANCING MANAGEMENT WITH A STARTUP

As a designer it is important to communicate the whole process. A small team enables responsibilities and expertise over areas that give an understanding of how everything is connected and why. My own innovative entrepreneurship and startup experiences along with the design lead roles as a tech-consultant, is a great experience to bring into the development of new products for others.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP & LEADERSHIP

With regards to everything about running a business and working with clients as your own project manager, your skills both as a designer and leader come really handy. The self-leadership, communication and strategies are efficiently developed when you are exposed to wider responsibilities alone and with noone in an existing team to support and be part of your work. The project was a success and the client was very happy with the deliveries, wanting to extend the project for further collaboration. My design was sent to the developer for an inital test-phase online and continued after being employed as a UX-consultant at Forefront.
